Jack W. Carncross
SPRINGFIELD - Jack W. Carncross, 87, of Springfield died at 11:10 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy, IL. He was born July 27, 1925, in East St. Louis, IL, to Gordon and Ferne Overmeyer Carncross. He married Violet M. Perkins on February 7, 1945, and she preceded him in death on February 11, 2012. Also preceding him in death were two daughters, Darleen Ahrens and Colleen Stone; and a sister, Valeria Childers.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen (Dewey) Yaeger of DeKalb, IL; son, Gordon (Elaine) Carncross of West Chicago, IL; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.
Jack has lived in Springfield since 1945. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran serving during WWII and Korea. He worked at Pillsbury Mills, Nichols Laundry and Wyandotte Chemicals. He was a member of Williamsville Christian Church. He was a member of Masonic Central Lodge #71/ now Chatham Central Lodge #523, a member of ANSAR Shrine, ANSAR Legion of Honor, Springfield Consistory and Past Director of the Jesters Court 20.
Visitation: 4 - 6 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m.
Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Monday, February 25, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Higgs officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
