Donald W. Dixon
SPRINGFIELD - Donald W. Dixon, 90, of Springfield, formerly of Havana, passed away at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield at 4:32 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013. He was born February 25, 1923, in Astoria, IL, to Robert and Mildred (McClelland) Dixon. He married Viola Lascelles on August 8, 1956, in Jacksonville, IL.
Mr. Dixon is survived by his wife, Viola, of Springfield; son, Michael (Julie) Dixon of Springfield; daughter, Lisa Dixon of Boston, MA; and stepson, Ron (Kathy) Lascelles of Springfield; as well as four grandchildren: Alex and Abbie Dixon, Amy LoCurto and Chris Meader; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joan Stehr of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Dixon served in the US Army in Europe during WWII. He was a member of VFW Post #6408 and American Legion Post #138 and Odd Fellows in Havana. He worked for the US Postal Service as a Mail Carrier for 29 years, retiring in 1984. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a visitation is scheduled at the Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg on Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Burial will follow services at a later date at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
