SPRINGFIELD - Joseph Hunter, "Joe," 91, of Springfield, died March 5, 2013, at 7:30 a.m. at St. Johns Hospital. He was born December 26, 1921, in Oak Ridge, LA, to Mint and Lula Smith Hunter.
Mr. Hunter was married on December 30, 1942, to Flora Jamerson. He served in the United States Army During WWII and received several decorations and citations. He worked for Fiat Alias and then he started his own business Detailing Auto Shop. Mr. Hunter was a member of the South Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Springfield.
Preceding him in death were his parents, ten brothers and three sisters.
Leaving to cherish his memory are his wife, Flora Hunter of Springfield; one son, Richard A. Hunter (wife, Cecelia D.) from Lusby, MD; one daughter, JoAnn Smith of Springfield; five grand-children; eleven great-grandchild, 16 great-great-grandchildren, one great-great-great-grand-child; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Hunter's family requested private funeral services which were held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at W.W.White Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Camp Butler National Cemetery. You may go online to sign the register book at
