NORMAL - Edgar M. "Ed" Ward, 81, of Normal, IL, and formerly of El Paso, IL, died at 9:20 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Heartland Health Care in Normal, IL.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2013, at Cross Point Church of God, Bloomington with Rev. Kevin Summers officiating. Graveside services with military rites will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at Farmington Cemetery, Pleasant Plains. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Memorials may be made to the church.

Ed was born November 25, 1931, in Springfield, IL, the son of Edward and Lillie Brock Ward. He married Vera Mae Shofner on July 5, 1957, in Springfield. She survives along with five children: Gladys (Steve) Briggs of Madison, WI, Carolyn Ward of Springfield, Nancy (David) Gudino of Basking Ridge, NJ, Jill (Joshua Green) Ward of Los Angeles, CA, and Gregory (Karen Osness) Ward of Kent, WA. He has seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Ed was a member of Cross Point Church of God in Bloomington and, over the years, served as church Treasurer, taught Sunday School and drove for the church bus ministry. He was a graduate of Brown's Business College. He worked as an accountant for GTE for over 30 years and the National Exchange Carrier Association (NECA) for 10 years.
Ed and Vera enjoyed traveling on cruise ships and visited five continents. He was also a shade tree mechanic. Ed was a train steam engine enthusiast which started while having worked for the Chicago and Illinois Midland (C&IM) Railroad. Ed was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean conflict.
