Jewel Virginia Goodman Deweese
CARBONDALE - Jewel Virginia Goodman DeWeese 94, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital. She had been living at home until that date with the loving support of caregivers employed by Addus Health Service.
Jewel was born August 9, 1918 in Osage County, Missouri to Harry C. Goodman and Zella E. (Keeney) Goodman. She was the sweetheart of Harold Lee "Bud" DeWeese with whom she eloped to Palmyra, Missouri, and married August 9, 1941. Bud was an educator and Professor at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He preceded her in death January 3, 2002.
Jewel is survived by her four children: Kathleen Sue O'Dell of Anchorage, Alaska; David Lee DeWeese of Edwardsville (wife Jerion), Kurt DeWeese of Springfield, Illinois (wife Diana); and Deborah Troutman of Seattle, Washington (husband Charles); and 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the women from Addus Health Service who were Jewel's caregivers and who loved Jewel very much.
Funeral services will be held at Crain Funeral Home Monday, March 18th at 11:00 a.m. on Old Route #13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro, IL, with Unitarian Universalist Minister William "Bill" Sasso officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Southern Illinois University Foundation.
