Harry Thomas Kelly, Ph.D.
SPRINGFIELD – Harry T. Kelly, Jr., was born June 24, 1932, in Kansas City, MO, and died on St. Patrick's Day, 2013 in Springfield, IL. In between those dates he lived a productive life. As a young man, he served in the Army during the Korean War. He sought advanced degrees in art, history, geology, and education, culminating with a Ph.D. in Education at the University of Chicago. With creative drive and a diligent mind, he applied his knowledge and skill in all those fields in varying roles in Missouri, California, Tex-as, and Illinois. Once retired, he utilized his rich experience in multiple volunteer and non-profit organizations in Dallas and Springfield.
Harry leaves his wife, Linda, of 41 years and four children: Bryan (Jane) with grandchildren, Sean and Shannon; Bridget (Tom) with grandchildren, Nicolas and Kelly; Tamarin (Matt) with granddaughter, Lily; and Lara (John) with grandchildren, Erik and Kristina. He is also survived by his sister, MaryEllen (Steve) Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Etta Rice Kelly, and sister, Janet Argo.
Harry's life will be celebrated by family and friends on April 6, 2013, in Springfield.
