Joseph P. "Hank" Podlasek
WILLOW SPRINGS, IL - Joseph P. "Hank" Podlasek, 98, of Willow Springs, Ill., peacefully passed away after a life filled with energy and optimism at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill.
Joe was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on January 5, 1915. He was an active member of both St. Barbara's Church in Chicago (Bridgeport) and St. James at Sag Bridge Church near Lemont, Ill. He lived in the Bridgeport area of Chicago for over 35 years, Willow Springs for 55 years, and the last two years in Springfield, Ill. He was known for his positive outlook on life, an enormous work ethic, and always seeing the bright side of life.
He worked for 28 years for General Motors, Electromotive Division near La Grange, Ill., and was a UAW retiree for 40 years. In retirement, he had a passion for traveling, gardening, cars and hiking in the woods near his home in Willow Springs.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Sophie Podlasek (nee Rutkowski); his parents, John and Victoria; brother, Stan-ley; and sister, Josephine.
He is survived by his two sons, Bob (Peggy) Podlasek of Springfield, Ill., and Carl (Sandi) Podlasek of Sanibel Island, Fl.; six grandchildren: Stacy Podlasek (Chuck Heilman) of Riverhead, N.Y., Amy Podlasek of Urbana, Ill., Eric Podlasek (Karen Tarzon) of Oak Park, Ill., Julie Podlasek (Brad Downen) of Springfield, Ill., John (Kar-en) Podlasek of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Brian (Elke) Podlasek of Ft. Myers Beach, Fl.; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
VISITATION: Family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Foran Funeral Home, at 7300 Archer Ave., Summit, Ill. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the
