WAVERLY, IL - Steve Baird, 50, died on Monday afternoon, June 10, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill.
He was born June 8, 1963, in White Hall, Ill., son of the late Stanford and Marilyn Lane Baird.
Surviving are two sisters, Julie Page (Larry) of Waverly and Marsha Stirsman (Jon) of Springfield; two brothers, Jerry Baird (Deborah) of Chatham, Ill., and Marty Buchanan (Debbie) of Hillview, Ill.; his loving caretakers, all of Waverly: John Pasley, Art McClellan and Dorothy Pasley, who became like a mother to him; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a maternal grandmother, Dorothy Workman.
Steve was a graduate of North Greene High School in White Hall, Ill. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Spruance.
He loved NASCAR and followed Rusty Wallace and Kyle Busch. He loved hosting family gatherings at the holidays and being with all his family.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Hillview Baptist Church in Hillview, Ill., with burial in Pinetree Cemetery near Patterson, Ill. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly.
