William L. Budds

CHATHAM- William L. Budds, 74, of Chatham passed away at 9:23 pm, on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at St. John's Hospital.

He was born January 10, 1939 in Pana, IL, the son of William H. and Alta M. Denton Budds. He married Mary Arlene Brown of Pana in December 1957 and lived in Decatur. Bill met Nancy Abraham of Chatham in 1999 at Wood Badge, a premier Boy Scouts of America adult training program. They were married on July 27, 2007.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene, his, parents, and two sisters, Wanda Lee Budds and Sandra Wafford.

Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy Budds, his four sons, Mark Budds of Los Angeles, CA, Jeff (Vonnie) Budds of Ft. Worth, TX, Kirk (Julie) Budds of Los Angeles, CA, Cain (Monique) Budds of Ruston, LA; four stepchildren, Mark (Cara) Abraham of Indianapolis, IN, Dan (Azhena) Abraham of Lovettsville, VA, Amy (Martin) Ruckes of Karlsruhe, Germany, and Aaron (Laura) Abraham of Abbotsford, British Columbia; seventeen grandchildren with twins on the way, nephew, Steve Woffard, and two nieces, Leah Summner and Nikki Reese.

Upon Bill's graduation from high school he joined the United States Marine Corps. Following military service he was employed as an accountant and as a Systems Analyst at A.E Staley Manufacturing Company, where he retired after 40 years of service.

Civic minded, he was actively involved in scouting both as a boy and as an adult for over 54 years and was honored with the Silver Beaver Award for life long service to the Boy Scouts of America. He was a life-long student, an avid outdoorsman, an accomplished hiker and a competitive shooter.

Bill and Nancy attended Cherry Hills Baptist Church in Chatham.

Bill's blended family, young and old, near and far, will miss him very much.

Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Thursday November 14, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.

Lie-in-state: 10:00-10:30 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2013 at Cherry Hills Baptist Church.

Funeral service: 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2013 at Cherry Hills Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Wilmarth officiating.

Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail and the U.S. Marine Corp. will conduct honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the William L. Budds Memorial Fund, Cherry Hills Baptist Church, (www.cherryhillsfamily.org) or the Boy Scouts of America, Lincoln Trails Council in Decatur.
