Ginger Blakeley Blunden

CHAPEL HILL, NC - Ginger Blakeley Blunden, 66, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Ginger was born Sept 28,1947, in Springfield, Ill., to Elmer and Glendora (VanEtten) Blakeley of Kilbourne. She married Giles Blunden on April 14,1984, in North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Surviving are her mother, Glendora, of Petersburg, Ill.; her husband, Giles of Chapel Hill; her sister, Brenda (Ken) Krause of Easton; stepchildren, Brent (Phoebe) Blunden of Chapel Hill and Jessica (Hilawe) Semunegus of Asheville, N.C. Also surviving are five stepgrandchildren: Hannah, Megan and Bleecker Blunden, and Helina and Leah Semunegus; as well as a niece, Kristine (Robert) Young of Stow, Mass., and their children, Reid and Emma Young.

Ginger graduated from Havana High School in 1965, earned her bachelor's degree in education from Western Illinois University, her master's degree in special education from the University of Illinois, and later earned a certificate as a recreation therapist director for nursing homes.

She taught special education classes for a few years and then became an entrepreneur of a retail store called G. Blakeley's Art Supplies in Carrboro, N.C. Later she owned and operated a gift shop called Whistle Stop close to the University of North Carolina campus in Chapel Hill. She last worked with packaging and preparing food for daycare centers in the Chapel Hill area.

Cremation has been accorded and graveside rites will be held at a later date.
