Joyce R. Busby
LITCHFIELD, IL - Joyce Rae Busby, 89, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at 3:04 a.m. at the Heritage Health and Senior Care Center in Litchfield.
Miss Busby was born Nov. 2, 1924, in Litchfield, Ill., the only child of Leland W. and Ruth M. (Keele) Busby. She was a graduate of the Litchfield Community High School Class of 1942. She later graduated from Monmouth College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology in 1947.
Miss Busby held many different jobs throughout her life. She worked in the insurance industry, was an Avon District Manager, and worked for many years at the University of Iowa, Dept. of Publications. Her department was responsible for the roll-out of the ACT test for high school students preparing to enter college. She retired in 1985 and returned to Litchfield.
Miss Busby was a lifelong member of the Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield. There, she served as Elder, Treasurer, choir member, and member of the Thelma M. Kloberdanz Memorial Trust Fund Committee. Miss Busby was also involved with the Litchfield Women's Club, St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, Kappa Delta Sorority, Tau Pi Chapter of Mortar Board, and Elderhostel.
Miss Busby was a generous contributor to numerous charities and a friend to many. Joyce was known to her family and friends for her giving spirit, quick wit, and love of life. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by cousins: Jim (JoAnn) Keele of Nokomis, Ill., Carl (Beverly) Keele of Nokomis, Ill., Anita (Jack) Rundquist of Butler, Ill., Amy (Eric) Ratcliff of Carlinville, Ill., Susan (Reggie) Finley of Zionsville, Ind., and Scott (Gina) Keele of Germantown Hills, Ill.; and many close friends.
Miss Busby was preceded in death by her parents and special friend, Paul Hensley.
Funeral services for Miss Busby will be held Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield, Ill. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the Church. The Rev. Jay Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Wares Grove Cemetery in Butler, Ill.
Memorials are suggested to the Wares Grove Lutheran Church, St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, or Adopt-a-Pet.
