Albert L. Klespitz
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Albert L. Klespitz, 90, died at 3:50 a.m., Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born July 9, 1923, in Springfield, to Loritz and Katie Staub Klespitz. He married Lula Mae Hewitt on Nov. 22, 1952, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Ruth A. (companion, Gene Harter) Wicks of Bulpitt; one son, Tony (Nancy) Klespitz of New Berlin; six grandchildren: Brian (Jennifer) Wicks, Andy Wicks, Amy Klespitz, Katie (J.T.) Wyzard, T.J. (Angel) Klespitz and Becky Harter; one brother, John Klespitz of Vista, Calif.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers: Frank, Tony, Lawrence, Carl and Mike.
Albert was in the CCC prior to joining the Army and served during WWII with the 3rd Army 126th Infantry. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and received four Bronze Battle Stars. He was a member of Southern View Chapel. He enjoyed reading, studying geography and creating his photo albums.
He worked for Central Iron for 28 years as a salesman and a steel cutter.
Visitation: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Staab Funeral Home, Pastor Gary Gilley officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
