Lawrence "Bill" Banister

MASON CITY, IL - Lawrence "Bill" Banister, 85, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015, at St. John's Hospice.

He was born on April 18, 1929, the son of Wilbert and Anna (Mason) Banister in Sweetwater, Ill. He married Betty Garrison on August 8, 1949. She preceded him in death.

Bill is survived by five children, Roger (Monica) Banister of Mason City, David (Brenda) Banister of Mason City, Greg (Lesley)Banister of Geneseo, Lori (Randy) Stadsholt of Green Valley, and Jill (Bob) Kendall of Mason City; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, two brothers, and two grandchildren.

Bill was a member of the Mason City Presbyterian Church. He served his country with the United States Navy. Bill was a mason and was active in the Masonic Lodge and the Consistory. He retired from Caterpillar as a maintenance welder and after his retirement he drove a truck for Garland Gehrke Trucking for many years.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015, at the Mason City Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Rev. Boni Quandt will officiate. Visitation for Bill will be Sunday, February 8, 2015, at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City beginning at 3 p.m.

Masonic Rites will be held at 4:45 p.m., Sunday.

Burial will be at the Mason City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Masonic Lodge, Mason City Presbyterian Church or Pets without Parents.

Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Grandpa Bill, You'll be missed so very much.. I wish I was able to see you before you passed.. Im sorry sorry that you couldn't pass away in your own bed, one thing I am grateful for is that you're now with Grandpa Betty.. I love you so much and miss you so much already. I may not have seen you everyday but when I could see you I always loved getting a great big hug from you. I love you so much!!

So sorry to hear of Bills passing. I lived by Bill and Betty 35 years. I always admired their family values. They were wonderful neighbors. Couldn't' ask for any better. I so missed our backyard conversations when I moved 11 years ago. My heart. Is with the family. Virginia
