ALMA JEANETTE MARTINSEN HANSEN

Alma, a lifelong resident of Burlington, passed away Tuesday, June 17. She had been living at Silver Creek Retirement Community in Puyallup this past year to be close to family. Alma lived a life of faith and service to family, church and community.

Alma was born July 28, 1921 to Martin and Carrie Martinsen of Bow, Washington. The youngest of five sisters, she grew up and attended school in the Edison area.

She was confirmed at Edison Lutheran Church May 19, 1935. After high school, Alma attended secretarial college in Seattle, and then went to work for the Boeing Company. In 1944 she married Arnold Hansen at Edison Lutheran Church, and the couple lived in various locations as Arnold completed his military service in the Air Force. Following his service the couple settled and raised their children on a farm in the Burlington area.

Alma was active in her church and community, always devoted to and supportive of her husband and his endeavors. Together they impacted their community in many positive and lasting ways. Alma was a musician and had a talent for playing piano by ear. She is remembered for her many years of accompanying the Burlington Lutheran Junior Choir with director and close friend, Bobbi Kloke. She had a great skill for correspondence, often busy on her typewriter keeping in touch with family and friends. Her detailed letters and encouragement will be missed by many.

Alma and Arnold enjoyed their retirement years traveling in their motor home, visiting their friends and family, spending lots of time in sunny Arizona, and many June fishing trips to Quadra Island in British Columbia.

We are grateful to our mother for passing along her strong faith and commitment to Christ, heart for serving others, gift of music, no-nonsense attitude, and attention to what is important in life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Jane Hansen of Lynnwood; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bronson Lewis of Tacoma; daughter-in-law, Jani Hansen of Ferndale; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.
