BARBARA JEAN (DEWITT) HOOVER(1924 - 2013)

Barbara Hoover, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2013 in Anacortes, WA with her loving family by her side.

She was born November 17, 1924 in Yonkers, NY to Seth and Rosalie DeWitt. Barbara attended schools in Mechanicville, NY and spent two years of college in Albany.

On July 21, 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Dick Hoover who preceded her in death on May 8, 1995. They have five children Rick Hoover (Leslee) of Marysville, Paul Hoover (Carol) of Daphne, AL, Marge Milnor (John), of Mount Vernon, Nancy Llewellyn, MD (George) of LaConner and Pierce Hoover (Sharon) of LaConner. In addition to the five children, there are also thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Barbara and Dick did some moving in their time. First living in Mechanicville, NY while Dick was going to college and then on to Westernport, MD, East Vassalboro, ME, Mobile, AL and finally to LaConner in September 1968. Seems like whenever Dick got a promotion, the family had to move.

Barbara loved gardening, bird watching (she knew her birds), her bridge club, cooking and took a special interest in whatever her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were doing. A lot of her time was taken up with football games, swim meets, baseball games, Sea Scouts, Rotary (Paul Harris Award recipient) and whatever else the family had going on.

Barbara also loved to cook and always put on a big spread for any family function, whether it be a Sunday gathering, family barbecue or for the holidays. These were always special times for us because it meant that the whole family was gathered together and we could all get caught up on what everyone was doing. It was also a good time to tell a few stories. She will be missed dearly.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Karen Bolton for the wonderful care she gave our mother these last years of her life and express our appreciation for the hard work and loving care that was provided by the staff at Island Hospital and the Fidalgo Care Center. And a special thank you to Judy Reis, her caregiver, who did so much for our mother over the past 1 1/2 years.

Visitation for Barbara will be held at Evans Funeral Chapel, Anacortes on Saturday, April 13 from noon to 12:45PM. The funeral will then begin at 1PM in the chapel. Interment will be at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in LaConner following the service and a reception at the family residence will follow the interment.

The family asks that donations be made in Barbara's name to the LaConner Rotary, PO Box 2111 LaConner, WA 98257 or to the Island Hospital Foundation 1211 24th Street, Anacortes, WA 98221.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands. To share memories of Barbara, please sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com.
