Donald Wayne Trivett a long time Skagit County resident died Monday March 31, 2014 at NW Hospital in Seattle, WA, surrounded by his loving family.

As we said "This is not good-bye, this is see you later."

Don was born in Orlando FL November 30, 1937 to Andrew and Ada Trivett.

He was #2 of 8. Somewhere along the road as a boy his family moved to Port Orford, OR where he grew up. He worked at the plywood mill where he met Shirley and they were married in 1957.

They moved with their 3 daughters to Mount Vernon in 1965 where he purchased his farmhouse where he lived for 49 years, a wonderful place! There he would grow some of the best gardens ever. He had a green thumb and grew a beautiful garden. He was well known for his tomatoes, corn and huge onions. (Who knew that last year would be the last crop?) We will miss your garden dad.

He also liked to fish and brought in some really nice salmon and other fish over the years. A fond memory is dad taking us to La Conner smelt fishing.

In early 1960's Don started working as a deckhand on a dredge. He worked for Youngman's dredging company, Mason and a couple others. His job took him to AK to work on the pipeline, all over WA, OR, CA, Mexico and Panama. Don was a proud member of the Operating Engineers Local 302 for 45 years.

Dad could be kind of gruff, grouchy, he had a bark sometimes but if you got past it all he was a teddy bear of a guy with a great sense of humor, and a heart of gold. He has a few nicknames, Doc, Don Juan, Nasty, Daddy O Papa bear, Pops and Papa Doc.

This last year he opened up and started talking a lot about his life. (We should have known something was up he usually was a man of little words.)

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley; parents; brothers, Jim, Lloyd, David and Marvin.

He is survived by his daughters, Trudi Trivett-Lee (David) Mount Vernon, Theresa Rumble (Roosevelt) Oak Harbor, WA and Barbara Al-Fazel (Khaleel) Saudi Arabia; grandsons, Rodrick, Ibrahim, Yousef, Saleh; granddaughters, Jackie, Tahani, Dallah, Ashwag; sisters, Beth Dockhem, Dena Marlow, Janice Edney; numerous nieces, nephews and also a lot of good friends.

The house is different, the void is here, and we already miss you. You changed our lives forever Daddy O. There is a lifetime of memories, we will never forget you! Thank you for giving us life.

So this is not good-bye but see you later. We love you so much, your family.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, 2:00 P.M. at Kern Funeral Home. Don's wishes were for cremation, he will be laid to rest with his wife Shirley in at the Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon.
