Howard "Rocky" Rockafellow, age 87, a Burlington resident passed away Friday, March 15, 2013 at Meiers Manor House, Sedro-Woolley.
He was born in Hamilton, MT on May 10, 1925 to Sam and Ruth (Moore) Rockafellow.
Being raised in Hamilton he logged in the Bitter Root Valley as a young man.
He was a veteran of WWII
, serving in the Navy and spent his time in the South Pacific.
He moved to the Skagit Valley in the mid 60's to be a superintendent for Snelson's and had lived here ever since. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing in Puget Sound and the Skagit River for salmon and steelhead.
Rocky worked all his life in the construction industry as a superintendent. He was a member of Operating Engineers, Local #302 running heavy equipment and also spent a few years on the North Slope of Alaska working on the pipeline in the mid 70's.
He was a long time member of the American Legion, George Baldridge Post No. 43 of Sedro-Woolley, and the Skagit Valley Eagles F.O.E. No. 3242, Burlington.
Dad enjoyed Blue Grass music, playing his fiddle and mandolin in jam sessions around the valley. He enjoyed carpentry work and odd projects for the Catholic Church.
Survivors include a brother, Ellis D, and Petie Rockafellow of Livingston, MT; daughter and son-in-law, Roxy and Dale Jewett and her two children, Jay and Jamie Depree; son, Rick and Marla and three children, Nikki and Jess, Bucky and Danielle, Corrine and DJ; great-grandchildren, Tinisha, Isabell, Rylan; one great-great-grandchild, Khyler, son, Randy, and good friend Rhonda, son, Russ and Tina and grandson, Cody; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rita; daughters, Raye Lynne and Robin Loue, and Renee.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, March 20 & 21, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:p.m. at Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington.
A Rosary will be held Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic church, Sedro-Woolley.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 22, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Sedro-Woolley, burial will follow in Bow Cemetery and a reception will follow.
