Jack Edward Herman, 86 of Mount Vernon, WA died unexpectedly at his Cedardale home on April 17, 2013 of cardiac arrest. Jack was born to Otto and Marie Magdalena Herman in Port Angeles, WA on March 31, 1927.

As an infant, he moved to San Gabriel Valley, California with his family where they resided on a walnut farm until 1937. The family returned to Skagit County to a 21 acre farm. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School and entered the Army to serve his country during World War II from 1945 to 1946.

When he returned to Skagit County he worked in many areas, which included Carpentry, nursery work, and Fishing. In 1949 he moved to Eureka, California to work in a plywood mill. In 1955 he moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to attend watch making school, where he became a master watch maker and engraver.

He married Sarah Ann Singer on April 23, 1958 in Winchester, Virginia. The couple moved to Bayside, California in the spring of 1959 and lived there until the summer of 1965. In September of 1965 they moved to the Skagit County area and have resided on Nelson road.

Jack enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the accordion, listening to country and gospel music, reading, and making things for family members in his shop, Spending special time with each member of the family and friends, had a special laugh with his humor and was always there to encourage each of them. When asked, he offered good advice. He was very selfless in his own way. He was gifted with discernment and was an awesome husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.

Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and is survived by: his wife of 55 years, Sarah; sons, Frank Otto, of Mount Vernon, Gordon Edward and wife Kelly Bush, of Concrete; daughters, Marie Myrtle and husband Sam Mehelich of Stanwood, Sally Ann and husband Henry Carlson of Acme; grandchildren, Samuel Jacob, Sara Holly, Charles Eli, Katrina Mehelich, Jonathon Carlson, and Jack Hamilton Herman; his brothers, Gordon Russell and wife Marlys, Carl Leonard of Mount Vernon; sister-in-law, Audrey Esther Singer Markle, of Lancaster, PA; his nephew, Danny Herman and family in Mountain City, TN; his niece, Shirley Corsaletti and family in Lone, CA; his cousins, Arnold and Mary Wennerberg and family of Stanwood, and other cousins in NH, TX, and WA. His eldest brother Herbert passed away in 1991.

A Memorial Service will be held on May 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Fir-Conway Lutheran Church. Followed by a time of refreshments and sharing in the Reception hall.
