Lawrence W. "Larry" Dye, 79, a lifelong Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 15, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born on December 21, 1934 in Sedro-Woolley, the son of Herbert & Helen (Vlahovich) Dye. He was raised and attended school in Sedro-Woolley graduating from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1952.
He then worked as a ward attendant at Northern State Hospital until he enlisted into the U.S. Army
during the Korean Conflict
. During his enlistment he met Marilyn Arel, a nurse in the Army Nurses Corps, and they were united in marriage at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sedro-Woolley on October 20, 1956. After they were discharged they made their home in Sedro-Woolley.
Larry returned to school, earning a nursing degree from Skagit Valley College and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Northern State Hospital in Sedro-Woolley until its closure in 1973. At that time he changed occupations and worked for several years as a forester for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources.
Larry was an avid deer & elk hunter, he enjoyed fishing, crabbing and clam digging with his good "old buddy" Alvin Matteson, but most important was being with his family and grandchildren.
He was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus in Sedro-Woolley as well as The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He was also a staunch supporter of Mt. Vernon Christian School.
Larry is survived by his son, Mark Dye and his wife Angel of Burlington and daughter, Kimberly Carroll of Olympia; 4 grandchildren, Chloe & Madeleine Dye and Nicole & Edward "Eddie" Carroll; his sister, Loreen Brinson and her husband Alan of Sedro-Woolley; 2 nephews, Duane and Dan Brinson; 3 great-nephews, 1 great-niece and special friend, Dona Herr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his wife Marilyn in 2001.
The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 7:00 PM at Lemley Chapel followed by a Funeral Mass on Friday, June 20 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Sedro-Woolley. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Sedro-Woolley Union Cemetery. Visitation will be available on Wednesday & Thursday from 9am to 5pm.
