MURRAY SPARRS

Murray Sparrs, 90, a long time resident of Burlington passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Skagit Valley Hospital.

He was born July 30, 1922 in Roy, Montana to John and Grace Sparrs.

The family moved to Skagit Valley in 1925 where he attended school in Burlington.

After graduation he joined the Army in 1942. He served in the Army Engineers in New Guinea, Luzon, and Southern Philippines. He was awarded the Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Bronze Star, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged in 1946 where he went to work for Great Northern Railroad.

Murray was married to Betty (Wright) Sparrs for more than 66 years.

After his retirement in 1980 Murray and Betty enjoyed their daily walks together.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Burlington Cemetery.
