RAMONA JUNE HOFFMAN(1933 - 2012)

Ramona June Hoffman, 79, of Mount Vernon passed away September 25, 2012 with her daughters by her side. A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Ramona will be missed by all who knew her.

Born August 21, 1933 in Mills, New Mexico, the daughter of Cecil and Bernadine Holmes. Joined in 1937 by twin brothers Larry and Jerry. The family moved to Seattle in 1942. Ramona graduated from Highline High School and was employed by Northwest Airlines where she met and married Emil J Hoffman and they were blessed with three daughters.

Ramona raised her three daughters as a single parent from 1958 till present. She was employed at Sears Roebuck and Co where she and a elite group formed a "Birthday Club" still meeting to this day to celebrate their birthdays. She went to work for Boeing and on her first day was also offered a clerical position with the USPS which she accepted. She was employed by the USPS until her retirement in 1992 working 25 years in Employee Services, the USPS Postal Inspection Service and eventually the USPS Safety Office.

In retirement Ramona shared the responsibility with her brothers of caring for her mother who had suffered a stroke in 1989. She and her mother moved to Mount Vernon in 2000.

Ramona was involved in many activities including Skagit Habitat for Humanity (in the Restore), COV at Bethany Covenant Church, Children's reading program through the Mount Vernon School District and the Skagit Count Fair as a docent in the handicrafts. She was involved with the Nat'l Assoc. of Supervisors of the US (NAPS), Nat'l Assoc. of Postmasters of the US (NAPUS) and Nat'l Assoc. of Retired Postal Inspectors (NARPI).

Ramona was renowned for her creativity from oil painting, hand crafted cards and her poetry - each uniquely crafted for the individual or the life event.

Ramona's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Brady of Port Townsend WA and their 5 children and 9 grandchildren, daughter Deanna Nielsen of Mount Vernon and her 5 children and 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, daughter Valerie Hoffman (William Swainson) and her 2 children and 2 grandchildren, brother Jerry (Charlene) Holmes and family of Shelton WA, brother Larry (Patricia) Holmes and family of Seattle and numerous cousins from AZ, MT and WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil E. and Bernadine J. Holmes.

Ramona was a hot air balloon enthusiast and attended the Albuquerque International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta since 1984 where she had her first flight October 14 of that same year.

A Celebration of her Life with a reception to follow will be held October 14, 2012 3:00PM at Hillcrest Lodge, 1717 S. 13th St., Mount Vernon. A private family burial will be held at Washington Memorial in SeaTac.
