Shirley Mae Armfield left us on November 4, 2013 at the age of eighty years old. She was a resident of Sedro-Woolley and died at United General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born on September 23, 1933 in Oso, Washington, the daughter of Shirley Augustin and Clarice "Tiny" (Parker) Allen. The family later moved to Hamilton where Shirley was raised and attended school.
Shirley was a Loggerodeo Queen contestant in Sedro-Woolley in 1948.
On March 4, 1950 she was united in marriage to Albert Armfield in Sedro-Woolley. They made their first home near the Samish community. They then lived in the Saxon community, Wickersham, and Sedro-Woolley before moving to Alaska in 1961. Through the early 60's, they made their home in Alaska with occasional stays in Sedro-Woolley. In the late 60's, they lived on the Olympic Peninsula; returning to Alaska in the 1974 until they settled back in Sedro-Woolley by 1982.
Over the years Shirley worked as a dietician at Northern State Hospital, in food service at a logging camp while in Alaska, in Central Supply at United General Hospital, as a night clerk at the Cocusa Motel, and assembling grinding wheels for Bates Abrasive.
Shirley really loved playing pinochle, bingo, and trying to win at slot machines and pull tabs. She also enjoyed sewing and knitting sweaters of all kinds for her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by her 3 daughters and their husbands, Karen & Phillip Adams of Sedro-Woolley, Joyce & Richard Bryant of Hoquiam, and Debbie & Mike Fernie of Sedro-Woolley. 9 grandchildren, Shirley Pettigrew, Phillip "Butch" Adams, Dennis Bryant, Lisa Jones, Rachael Schaut, Heather Pagnossin, Michael Fernie, Kennith Sweeney and Albert Jorgensen; 17 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Wm. R. "Bill" Armfield and sister-in-law, Peggy Allen; nephews, Rodney Allen and Lee Armfield; and nieces, Angela Hern, Kristie Fine and Kerri Helgeson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Albert; a daughter Lynne Armfield and 2 brothers, Maurice "Sonny" Allen and Wes Allen.
She is also survived by her little dog, "Chico" and her cat, "Daisy".

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Saxon Cemetery, 1290 Bowman Rd. Acme, WA, with Pastor Janice Smith officiating. Reception following service at the Sedro-Woolley Eagles Banquet room, 1000 Metcalf St.
Services are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
