THOR OWEN MELUM

Thor Owen Melum was born on April 4, 1992 in Sedro-Woolley, Washington and unexpectedly passed on May 27, 2013. He is now holding his hammer and looking over us all.

His 21 years in the valley was spent at Allen Elementary and Burlington-Edison High School where he graduated in 2011.

He left the valley briefly to pursue his dream of becoming a diesel mechanic at Universal Technical Institute in Avondale, Arizona and achieved an Associate of Occupational Studies Degree in Diesel and Industrial Technology in June 2012. We are so proud of his achievements and what he accomplished during his short stay with us. We loved so many of his many traits, but especially his dimples, his sweet smile and contagious laugh.

He left such a great impression on everyone he met whether it was through school, sports, or his work. He was employed by many great employers in the valley. He loved working with his co-workers at Cook Road Shell, Napa Auto Parts, Farmers Equipment Company, even a small stint with Ride the Ducks of Seattle, and returned to the Valley to work for Skagit Transit.

He participated in wrestling for 6 years from seventh grade through his senior year, and was our adored varsity heavy weight starting in his freshman year and missed out on the state championships his senior year due to an injury. He participated in football for 10 years, starting in the midget's with the Burlington-Edison Youth Football League and continued on with the BE Tigers.

Away from school, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his ATV's, and hanging out with his many friends around the bonfire here in the "Ger".

He will be missed by many, especially his parents, Glenn and Tami; his brother, Blake; his grandparents, Doug and Luella Jerns; Bernadette Quinn, Skip and Yvonne Melum. Especially his cousins, Alyssa and Stephen, Angel, Steven, Curtis, and Forrest. Their Parents - Carey and Teresa Johnson, Shelly and Dale Newell, Mike and Sue Melum, and Uncle Tom Melum. And many extended cousins, aunts, uncles, honorary Mom's, Dad's, Aunts and Uncles, Teachers, and Coaches and his many Friends.

We will be having a small service and a Large Celebration of Thor's life on Saturday, June 1, 2013, from Noon to Three pm at Christ the King Church at 988 Fountain Street in Burlington. We would love to have everyone that attends bring a picture or two or more and write us a note regarding their favorite memory of Thor. The family and friends would love to read your stories and have them to read and remember in the days to come.
