Vera passed away in Sedro-Woolley after a long struggle with age related health issues.
She was the only child of Walter and Vera Warren, born in Denver, Co and raised in Covina, CA.
She graduated from Covina Union High School, attended Pasadena City College, received her Nursing diploma from the Bishop School of Nursing at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles in 1943, her BSN from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI in 1951 and her MS in Nursing Administration from the University of Washington
In 1943 she married Jerome "Jerry" Mudge in Glasgow, MT where Jerry was stationed during WWII. After the war they returned to Vera's home town of Covina, CA. They built their first home in Chino, CA, leaving there for Detroit where she completed her BSN.
In 1954, the family moved to Anacortes, WA. Vera was one of the first employees at the new Island Hospital, where she became the first Director of Nurses.
In 1965, the family moved to Edmonds, WA so she could return to school to work on her master's degree. She retired in 1983 as Administrator of Mercer Island Villa Care Convalescent Center.
After her husband's death, she returned to Anacortes where she lived with her daughter Nancy, and in 2011 she moved to Birchview Memory Care in Sedro Woolley.
Vera was a member of the Edmonds United Methodist Church where she volunteered in the Food Bank for 20+ years. She loved camping particularly at Kalaloch at Olympic National Park claiming that Ruby Beach was her favorite place to be.
Vera was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jerry and her parents.
She is survived by her four daughters Nancy Coggon of Anacortes, Laurie Nelson (Royce) of Troy, ID, Amy Miller (Daryl) of Olympia and Elizabeth Jaquith of Edmonds; 6 grandchildren Katie, Rachel, Jon, Sarah, Lily and Corinne; 2 great granddaughters Sophia and Ava; and two best friends Naomi Hollister and Kay Winans and their families.
The family will hold a private service later this month in Edmonds.
