WAYNE LINDSTROM(1924 - 2014)

Wayne Lindstrom, 89, of Mount Vernon passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014.

He was born October 1, 1924 in Northwood, ND to Wendell and Mathea (Lundgaard) Lindstrom.

At an early age the family moved to La Conner where Wayne grew up and graduated from La Conner High School.

He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and earned an officer's commission in 1944.

On December 19, 1944 he married his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Birgit Larson.

Wayne proudly served three years during WWII as a Navigator Officer aboard the USS Bronx, an attack transport ship.

An accountant by profession, Wayne and Birgit loved to travel. Their favorite place was Hawaii. Wayne loved growing flowers: African Violets and Roses being his favorites; he also loved dancing.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Birgit; and one daughter, Judy.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda (and husband, Bob Myette); five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and his best friend in his final years, Betty Stewart, a former high school friend whom he met again after moving into Mountain Glen Retirement Center.

At his request, no formal services will be held. A private family service will be held at a later date.
