DONALD B. BOLTON

1921 - 2011

Donald B. Bolton, 89, of Anacortes, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Rosario Assisted Living in Anacortes. He was born on March 24, 1921 in San Jose, California, the son of F.W. and Winnie (West) Bolton.

He was raised in San Jose and after leaving home, he joined the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii when it was attacked by Japan. Don served on a destroyer in the Pacific until the end of the war. Following his service in the Navy, Don found various employment, and eventually moved to Seattle to work at the Sand Point Naval Station. Here he met and married Irene Wifuer.

He and his wife moved to Anacortes when he obtained employment as a pipefitter at the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station where he worked for over 30 years.

Besides being a loving husband and father, Don was very active, for many years in the Boy Scouts, serving as a Scout Master for Troop 85 in Anacortes. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

During his later years, Don became a member of the local Pearl Harbor Survivors Club and was even able to attend the 60th anniversary of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. He also enjoyed spending time ballroom dancing, and traveling with his friend and companion, Helen Allan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene in 1990.

He is survived by his loving companion, Helen; his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Christina Bolton; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made in Don's name to a local food bank.
