MAXINE BROMBERGER Obituary

Maxine Bromberger, 93, a resident of Mount Vernon, passed away at her home in Mountain Glen Retirement Center on Thursday, April 7, 2011.

She was born on June 12, 1917 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of Walter & Myrtle (Baer) Miller. The family moved to Oklahoma later moving to San Louis Obispo, California where Maxine was raised and attended school, graduating from San Louis Obispo High School in 1934.

Her first job was at the Welfare office in San Louis Obispo where she assisted with the CCC rebuilding of the "Mission of San Luis Obispo".

On February 25, 1939 she was united in marriage to Jerold I. Bromberger in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their first home in San Louis Obispo, moving later to downtown Seattle in 1939, then to Beacon Hill until finally settling in West Seattle.

Maxine worked as a secretary for the Red Cross during and after the war receiving a Meritorious Service Award. She also worked for the Link Belt Company from 1957 until 1962 when she began working as an administrative assistant for the Seattle School District, working for 20 years until her retirement in 1982. Maxine continued to make her home in West Seattle until 2000 when she moved to Mount Vernon to be closer to her family.

Maxine was active with her volunteer work for the Discovery Shop in Seattle and was a longtime and active member of the Episcopal Church. Maxine loved baseball and rarely missed a game; she was an avid fan of the Seattle Rainiers, the Pilots and the Mariners.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry & Mary Bromberger of Sedro-Woolley; six grandchildren: Anna Bromberger, Patrick Tingley, Melinda Beserra (Troy) Ali Mears (Jeff), Kristen Mears and Erin Emery (Josh); numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerold; sister, Beatrice Norr and brother, Earl Miller.

A memorial service will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 10:00am with a reception following at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Children's Hospital in Seattle or St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley.
