BILL WHITLOCK Obituary

Bill Whitlock, age 88, passed away at home on March 29, 2011 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 10, 1922 in Harrisburg, Illinois, he was the youngest of 6 children born to Charles and Mary Whitlock on a small farm.

World War II found Bill in the US Army serving in an Evacuation Hospital in the ETO. He was involved in 5 major campaigns.

After his discharge from the Army, Bill married Barbara Nolan on October 2, 1948. They spent most of their married life in San Diego, California, moving to Mount Vernon in 2002. They celebrated 57 years together.

A hardworking man, who continued to work all the way into his 80's, Bill worked for several different companies during his lifetime.

After a time of unemployment following General Dynamics layoff in the 1960's, Bill began working as a janitor for a small manufacturing company. Within just a few years, he had worked his way up to General Production Manager over 300 employees. The job he most enjoyed was with Sym-Tek, where he was the International Sales Director. This gave him a wonderful opportunity to travel the world and make friends with his clients from around the globe. He determined that he had been in 105 different airports during the course of his business and personal travels.

After retiring, Bill lived a quiet, but full life in Mount Vernon. He enjoyed trips to Alaska. He cared for the needs of his neighbors and family. He was loved by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; and his siblings, Lloyd Whitlock, Pauline Tate and Hayward Whitlock.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Ann Whitlock of Anchorage, Alaska; his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Cheri Whitlock of Mount Vernon, WA; and his sister, Geneva Campbell (Ken) and brother, Roger Whitlock (Marian), both of Michigan.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Northwest for their compassionate support and care during Dad's last illness.

A private family graveside service was held on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Mount Vernon Cemetery, with Pastor Don DeJong presiding.

Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of Kern Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Northwest.
