GEORGE SPRINGER Obituary

George E. Springer of Mount Vernon, WA passed away on June 26th, 2010 at the age of 92.

George was born in Kelso, WA June 17th, 1918 of parents Bert and Ada Springer.

He joined the Army in 1938 touring Europe during WWII. In 1943 then Staff Sergeant Springer met Elizabeth (Betty) Gallimore; they married in 1944. The couple moved to Mount Vernon, WA in 1947.
George and Betty were married 66 years. In 1950 George was drafted into the Navy where he served a tour on the aircraft carrier Bon Homme Richard (CV-31).

George started Skagit Whatcom Electronics in 1954 and handled most resale, military and government accounts until he retired in 1980 selling the company to his son Tony.

In his early years George studied saxophone and started several bands where he was the band leader and sax player.

In later years along with playing saxophone in his spare time, George was a member of the Mount Vernon Elks, a committee member of the Skagit Valley College Electronics education program and because photography was his hobby, George was the honorary photographer for many national and international travel tours put on by Skagit Valley College as well as Valley Travel where wife Betty was a travel agent.

George and Betty were avid SKAT bus riders; George was especially fond of the #207 and #208 buses and their drivers.

Preceding him in death was his brother, Robin.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; and their four sons and spouses Tony and Pam, Glenn, Grant and Joni, Michael and Terry; numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; as well as his sister, Norma King and husband Mike.

George Springer will be missed by all that knew him.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held at Christ the King Community Church, (211 Riverside Drive, Mount Vernon) 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 1st, 2010.

Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home of Mount Vernon.

I'm sorry for your loss. George will be greatly missed on the Skagit Transit busses. All of us drivers and passengers alike, were very fond of George and admired the obvious love he showed for Betty. Thanks for being a part of our Skat family George. You will be missed.

Betty,
My sincere condolences to you and your family. I have wonderful memories of George when he would come into Valley Travel and visit you. Working together at the travel agency meant that we all were treated to George's frequent visits.

It's always a difficult time when our parents/spouse leave us. George was such a delightful person to talk to and visit with. It was always a pleasure to see him while visiting my parents who lived across the street. You all are in our thoughts and prayers.
