GEORGE KERR Obituary

George Thompson Kerr, 89 of Burlington passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Mira Vista Care Center in Mount Vernon. He was born January 10, 1922 in Portland, OR to George T. and Ida M. (Thompson) Kerr.

He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1941 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps in November, 1942. He served as an Intel man attached to a tank battalion and participated in the battles for Guam in the Marianas Islands and Iwo Jima in the Volcano Islands. His unit received the Presidential Unit Citation for action on Iwo Jima.

After the war he worked in the shipyards of Portland, OR as a shipwright carpenter. George was a member of the "Sons of the Revolution" and enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Audrey; his sister, Margaret Gustavson; daughter-in-law, Vicki and granddaughter, Tami.

He is survived by a brother, Dan; his children, Sherry (and husband, Russell), Jerry, Terry (and husband, Jeff), Kerry and Suzanne; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held at Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home.

My prayers and sympathies to the family and friends....I remember him from the family living down the road when I was young.. May god hold you tight thru this time of sorrow!!!
