HAZEL HOUGH Obituary

Hazel Jean (Perryman) Hough was lovingly taken to Heaven on May 21, 2011 in Anacortes, WA. Hazel was the youngest of 6 children born to Willard and Bessie Perryman on March 1, 1920 in Viola, Arkansas.

As the youngest of 6, Hazel had to be feisty, and could put the fear in her older brothers and sisters, a trait that would serve her well throughout her life.

After high school graduation, Hazel knew the hard farm life was not for her, and with her parents' reluctant permission, headed to California to live with her paternal aunt.

She graduated from business college in Los Angeles, and soon met her future husband, Dennis Hough. They were married 6 months before WWII.

Their daughter, Sharon, was born several years later, and Dennis headed to war in Europe. The war years were a difficult time for the young wife and mother, as Hazel worked in an aircraft plant while Dennis was fighting in France and Germany.

After the war, Hazel and Dennis worked hard to make a good life for their family and many fond memories remain from those days.
Hazel was a wonderful, fun Nana to her 4 grandchildren. She entertained them with outings they still talk about. Especially, stories about growing up on the farm, the teasing by her siblings, and her payback which was always dreaded.

Hazel retired as payroll supervisor from the Los Angeles Dept of Water and Power and moved to Las Vegas where she lived for 16 years before ill health required a move to Anacortes. Sharon, and husband, Gene, lovingly cared for Hazel, at home, and feel honored the Lord entrusted them with Hazel's care for almost 6 years.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clyde, John Darrel, and Floy; sister, Aves Dalrymple and Alpha Sanders. Also, ex-husband Dennis; infant son, James Perry Hough; and grandson, Randy Belli.

Hazel is survived by adoring daughter, Sharon and son-in-law, Eugene Averill. Also, by loving grandchildren, Robert Belli of Anacortes, Shannon Belli and Kelly Belli of West Sacramento, CA and Gene and Sally Averill of Woodland, CA.

Gene and Sharon would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at Island Hospital Home Health Care. Their loving care of Hazel went beyond expert medical professionalism and extended to the compassion and support they gave us during the past 4 ½ years of their care for Hazel at home. We feel blessed that Mom's illness, unexpectedly, brought so many loving and caring people into our lives, and though this journey was, at times difficult, we would not have traded away one moment.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2011 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes, WA. Interment will be at Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Byron, Arkansas.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
