LUKE LONG Obituary

Luke Oaking Long passed away peacefully on May 9, 2011 surrounded by loved ones at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA.

Luke was born on June 25, 1923 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

He received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. Luke worked as an electrical engineer for the Shawinigan Engineering Company in Montreal, Quebec and a Special Assignment Engineer for the Woodward Governor Company in Rockford, Illinois. Luke transferred to Fort Collins, CO where he managed three departments. He retired from Woodward Governor in 1984 and moved to Shelter Bay, La Conner, WA.

Luke was an Elder of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the La Conner United Methodist Church. He belonged to the Elks, Kiwanis, and the Nile Shrine Center in Mount Lake Terrace, WA. Luke was an active member of the Nile Oriental Band and also enjoyed playing the bagpipes.

Luke is survived by Lila, his beloved wife of 61 years; daughters, Elaine, Kirsten, Denise, and April; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

There will be two memorial services for Luke: Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the La Conner United Methodist Church, 601-S 2nd Street, La Conner, WA and also at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the Nile Shrine Center, 6601-224th St. SW, Mount Lake Terrace, WA.

Memorials may be sent to: "The Dad Fund", Nile Shrine Center, 6601-244th St. SW, Mount Lake Terrace, WA, 98403, designating "The Dad Fund", in memory of Luke O. Long on the check.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.

Lila and family, I knew Luke through the LaConner Kiwanis and had my home in Shelter Bay blessed by his pipes. I have fond memories of him and share my heart felt condolences with you.
