PHILLIP BARGEWELL Obituary
Phil was raised in Anacortes and during the Depression found work with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), completing various projects throughout the Western United States.
He was inducted into the U. S. Army in 1944 and served as a driver for the Medical Services, transporting wounded soldiers from the battlefield of Luzon to hospitals. Phil completed his service in 1946.
When he returned to Skagit County, he found work as a logger and eventually found his niche as a shingle sawyer. Phil worked for various shingle mills in Anacortes, Concrete and Forks, Washington.
Phil married Ada Padgett and together they had three children, Dick, Connie and Judy. He retired in 1980, and spent his retirement years camping in his trailer at Day Creek.
One of Phil's joys was dancing, often Waltzing with either Ada, or one of his many grandchildren in their living room. He also took pleasure in gardening, fishing and boating, but especially just being with his family.
Phil was a lifetime member of the Anacortes American Legion and the Anacortes Eagles Aerie # 249.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ada; longtime companion Evelyn Hargett; brother Darryl Bargewell and two grandsons.
Phil is survived by his children & spouses, Dick and JoAnn Bargewell, Connie & Milton Littlefield, and Judy & Bob Krause; siblings and spouse, Delbert Bargewell & Helen Montgomery and Rita Godsey. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Thursday, April 21, 2010, at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes with military honors.
Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
