THERESA MARIE WOODARD

1919 - 2011

Theresa Marie Woodard, 91, of Anacortes, passed away at Fidalgo Care Center on April 10, 2011.

She was born on August 23, 1919 in Anacortes, WA, the second oldest of 6 children born to Joseph and Anna (Babarovich) Maticich.

She graduated from Anacortes High School in 1927 and went on to Business College in Seattle.

Theresa was employed by several forest products companies in both Oregon and Washington and worked in accounting as a payroll clerk and secretary.

She met her first husband Roy Hughes and gave birth to her son James Hughes in 1940.

Theresa lived with her second husband Lester Woodard in Reedsport, Oregon until 1964 when he passed away from cancer. She returned to her family home in Anacortes to care for her father, Joseph Maticich, and continued living there the rest of her life.

Theresa had many passions as an adult. She spent many years in a bowling league, loved to visit the world and enjoyed flower gardening, playing cards and baking. During her travels she visited: Japan, Europe, Africa, China, Australia and New Zealand. There was never a tour or cruise in which Theresa didn't come home inspired to go on the next one. She was a Life Member of the Soroptimist Club and volunteered in their thrift store regularly. Theresa was also an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She donated her time to parish functions: rummage sales, monthly money counts and belonged to the women's service guild.

Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, and son James.

She is survived by her sister, Jeanette LaFleur of Bellevue, Washington; her brother, John Maticich of Beaverton Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews; and grandson, Jessie Hughes and family of Colville, Washington.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes. A Reception will follow the Graveside Service at Evans Funeral Chapel, 1105-32nd St., Anacortes, WA.
