Arthur (Art) E. Luthy passed away on September 16, 2013 in Burlington, WA at the age of 93.

Born in Chicago, Ill on August 14, 1920, he was the oldest child of Earl and Eula Luthy.

He graduated from Oak Park High School in Chicago, and followed his adventurous spirit to Colorado, where he studied geology at the Colorado School of Mines for two years.

With the advent of World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in June of 1941. In April 1942 he received his commission and pilot's wings at Brooks Field, Texas. He received four Oak Leaf Clusters for his meritorious achievements in aerial flights as a member of the Northwest African Photo Reconnaissance Wing, serving primarily in Northern Africa.

In December, 1945 Art married Ruth Marion York of Millinocket, Maine, the sister of his Air Corps buddy, Russell York. Together Art & Marion drove to Seattle, WA where he started his career with United Air Lines.

That career subsequently moved his family to New Jersey and then to San Diego, CA where he retired in 1977. They moved back to Washington in 1978, settling in the Skagit Valley.

He was a man of many interests and hobbies. Handy with tools, he built his own telescope, sailboat, and greenhouses. Art eventually designed and built their home in Shelter Bay, WA. He also enjoyed fishing, hiking in the Cascades and southwestern desserts, faceting gems, and raising orchids and Bonsai trees.

His wife Marion passed away in 2002 after 57 years of marriage.

He is survived by his 4 children: Jean Ashby (Larry) of Mount Vernon, WA, Michael Luthy (Kim) of Portland, OR, Christopher Luthy (Bonny) of Charleston, SC and Steven Luthy (Judi) of Huston, TX; brother Edward Luthy (Zoe) of Kinsale, VA, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A private service will be held at a later date.
