Bruce H. Emmons of White Rock BC (formerly of Burlington, WA) passed away on August 4, 2014 at the Silverado care facility in Bellingham, WA where he had been a resident for several months. Bruce was born in Sedro Woolley, WA to Harry and Gladys (Lundman) Emmons on April 7, 1934.

He was raised in the Milltown area of the Skagit Valley and attended grade school in Conway. Bruce graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1953. He had pre-enlisted with the Marines prior to graduation and reported for active duty with the US Marine Corps in the fall of 1953. He served with USMC aboard the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea in the Far East until 1955. He was then employed by Puget Sound Power and Light until his retirement in 1994.

Bruce married Donna F. Albee of Burlington March 15, 1956 in Fir/Conway. They raised their family and resided in Burlington. Bruce married Rosemary Eddie in 2002 and became a permanent resident of Canada in 2005.

Bruce was always active and serving his community in a variety of ways. He served with the Burlington Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter/EMT 1976-1997; was a member of the Burlington Planning Commission 1982-88; assisted in the formation and certification of the Skagit County Sheriff's Post 6 Explorer Search & Rescue and was the unit's Special Deputy/Explorer Advisor during its first decade. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #3242; The American Legion Post #91; life member of the Marine Corps League Skagit Valley Detachment #1043; life member of the US Sea Going Marines Association; life member USS Philippine Sea Association; Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Governor Steven's Camp #1; Hereditary Companion Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States; Endowment life member of the NRA and a member of the Single Action Shooting Society.

Bruce's hobbies included hunting, fishing, exploring the west, wintering in Arizona, photography, target shooting, genealogy and traveling. His travels took him to Scotland, England, Ireland, Arizona, Hawaii and on a cross country trip from Washington to upstate New York.

Bruce was preceded in death by his first wife Donna, son Eric and his sister Grace Preston.

He is survived by wife Rosemary Eddie of White Rock BC, daughter Linda (Lee) Suksdorf of Moses Lake WA, step-daughter Coleen Smith (Gordy MacEachern) of Delta BC, son Craig Emmons of Burlington WA, step-son Patrick (Lorraine) Smith of Port Moody BC, grandchildren Sarah (Anthony) Farve, Zac Wright, step-grandchildren Lexi MachEachern, Finley Smith, Arden Smith, Lee Suksdorf Jr., Chris Suksdorf and several great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Silverado for the wonderful care Bruce received while residing there. He often said he felt like he was living with all of his cousins.

His family would like you to join them in a celebration of his life on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 1-3 pm at the Burlington Fire Department. Interment will be Monday, September 8 at Tahoma National Cemetery.
