Gary Dean Asher, of Tavares, Fla., passed away on November 13th at the age of 79 years. He was born in Ferndale, Wash. to Howard and Rose Asher. In 1938 the family moved to Mount Vernon, Wash. Gary graduated from Mount Vernon Union High School in 1952.

Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in business. Gary worked for Dow Chemical for 31 years before retiring.

He and his wife, Lois, have been snowbirds, wintering in Tavares from Indianapolis since 1999.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tavares. Gary loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and a good game of golf. He and Lois loved to take road trips on his motorcycle. Gary enjoyed making stained glass as a hobby.

Gary is remembered and will be dearly missed by his wife of 19 years, Lois Frye; daughter, Cheryl Asher of Puyallup, Wash. and son, Dean Asher of Puyallup; step-son Greg Frye of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers Richard "Rick" Asher of Renton, Wash. and Howard "Bill" Asher of Silverdale, Wash.; grandchildren, Julie Dennis of Puyallup, Jacob and Joshua Rogers of Wash., Natalie Frye of Middletown, Ohio and Sara Frye of the Cincinnati area; and special family friend, Kelly Mahoney of Tavares.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Cynthia Rogers.

Services will be held in Washington state at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the First United Methodist Church, 600 W. Ianthe St., Tavares, FL 32778.
