George C. Hiles, 87, of Anacortes, died peacefully in his sleep January 15, 2014 at Fidalgo Care Center.

George was born on September 12, 1926 and was raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota and served in the Navy during WWII.
After returning home, George met and married his wife Jean Moore in 1946 and he worked as a long haul truck driver and also in retail.
In 1959 he married Carole Bies and took the family to Anchorage, AK in December 1962.
In 1966, George settled in the Seattle, WA area and later married Patricia Ellis.
His hobbies included traveling abroad, square dancing where he was a caller; astronomy and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with children. George also took pleasure in playing the guitar and singing with his children. Late in life, he moved to Anacortes, enjoying the scenery and wildlife which he called God's country. George loved being close to family, watching them play sports and playing with his grandchildren; he really treasured spending time with family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
George is survived by his children Patricia Myntti, Phillip Hiles, Terrie Bright, Paula Bjerk, Joni Alfson, Catherine Custer, and Robert Hiles and 17 fantastic grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and 2 great, great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for George will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Family Life Assembly, 1617 29th Street, Anacortes.
