LARRY LEE NELSON (1940 - 2014)

Larry Lee Nelson passed away on January 6, 2014, at home after a long struggle with Asbestosis and other complications.

He was born October 19, 1940, to Lorraine and Robert E. Nelson, in Mount Vernon WA.

Larry graduated from LaConner High School in 1958. He enlisted in the United States Navy that June, serving until he retired, February 28, 1981, as a Senior Chief Machinist Mate. He was a qualified Engineering Officer of the watch and earned the Surface Warfare Devise and the following decorations: Navy Achievement Medal, Good Conduct (3 awards)Meritorious Unit Commendation, Combat Action Ribbon, National Campaign Medal, Vietnam Presentational Unit Citation.

Larry is survived by his sister, Sandra (Duane)Palmgren, nephew and nieces: Kelly, Kim, and Heidi Palmgren, great nephew: Cody Palmgren, his namesake Nelson (Duane's Jack Russell), dearest friends and caretakers: Mike and Annette Winkler, and numerous other friends.

Larry will always be remembered as a kind and giving man. He loved his Mariners, Seahawks, and Huskies. His family, friends, and the United States Navy meant the world to him. Larry will be truly missed.

A celebration of life will take place January 25, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fleet Reserve Association, 521 S. National Ave. in Bremerton, WA.
