Marjorie Westman was born in Yakima, WA and grew up in Oregon and Northern California and graduated from West Seattle High School in Seattle. She attended the University of Washington and Cornish School and studied arts and painting.
Marjorie met Gus Westman in 1942, and married him soon afterwards, becoming his lifelong partner and soul mate. They made their home in Seattle and raised their two sons there, living in West Seattle, Queen Anne and Capitol Hill.
During those years Marjorie worked in direct mail advertising and copywriting at the Frederick and Nelson department store. She retired from work in 1971.
After their sons went off to college, they built a house in the country near Poulsbo, WA and lived there for over 15 years of their retirement. During the last few years of Gus' life, they moved to Burlington, WA, where Gus died in 1993.
After his death Marjorie began to work with the Burlington Planning Commission and was elected to the Burlington City Council for two terms, serving into her eighties. With her eyes afflicted with macular degeneration she moved back to Seattle after finishing her terms on the City Council.
For her last two years of life she returned to live at Where The Heart Is assisted living home in Burlington. Marjorie loved to paint and was deeply interested in civic affairs and progressive politics.
She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends. The family extends their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Where The Heart Is for their loving care that Marjorie received.
