Neil E. Foss was born in Snohomish County on November 23, 1923. He was the son of Forrest E. Foss and Eva (Wiley) Foss.
Neil died of pneumonia on March 7, 2014 after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Forrie, Fred, Scott and Clifford; and sister Lois Means.
Neil is survived by Catherine, his loving wife of 47 years, daughters Lori Foss and Barbara Erickson, grandsons Kevin Erickson, and Jesse and Jenifer Erickson and their daughters Savannah and Sabrina Erickson; his sisters-in-law Kelly Foss and Mary McDonald, brother-in-law Ed Barcott; and many nieces and nephews.
Neil graduated from Concrete High School where he was a star athlete. He received a football scholarship from the
University of Washington
which he attended but left to join the
US Air Force
where he served as a Lieutenant in the South Pacific during
World War II
as a B-24 bomber pilot. He had an enduring connection to his bomber crew and kept contact with them over the years. After his discharge, he joined the family logging company, F.E. Foss and Sons where he worked until his retirement.
Neil's hobbies included pool, poker, bridge and reading Western novels. He also was a great football fan. He enjoyed fishing and cruising the San Juan Islands in his power boat "Zivili". Neil was an avid golfer and he and his wife spent many enjoyable winter months at resorts in California and Arizona. He had a special friendship with Earl Morgan and all the crew at Similk Golf Course. He was a generous and true friend. We will miss you Neil. Thanks for the memories!
A private family interment will be held at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes.
