Pearl Lillian Petrzelka passed away peacefully on June 14, 2013. Pearl was born May 26, 1925 in Stanwood, WA to Scandinavian immigrants Erik and Solveig Nelson. She attended school there, graduating from East Stanwood High School in 1943.

After graduation, Pearl went to work at the Bank of Stanwood. In the fall of 1944, she enrolled at the University of Washington, coming home summers to her job at the bank. During her college years she met her future husband, David Petrzelka, at a popular dance hall known as The Seven Cedars. On June 26, 1948, just weeks after graduating from the UW with a degree in home economics, they married. They made their home in Stanwood, while David worked as an accountant at a local food processing plant.
In the early 1950's, they moved to Mount Vernon where Pearl & Dave started their family, having 3 sons and a daughter. Dave's job took the family to Milton Freewater, Oregon in 1960 but brought them back to the Skagit Valley to reside in Burlington in 1963. Another daughter was born in 1967 to complete their family. Pearl worked as a seamstress in the custom window coverings business for many years.
Pearl's many hobbies included sewing, crafts, bridge, golf, and travel. Dave and Pearl loved to travel with friend taking them on cruises to Australia and the Mediterranean, Sweden to visit family, and many travels around the US. She loved to entertain her friends and family at their cabin on Camano Island that she and Dave had built in 1952. Pearl was a devoted wife, loving mother, wonderful grandmother, and so proud to be a great grandmother. She was a member of many organizations and groups including a local Children's Hospital Guild, Westview Garden Club, many bridge groups, Skagit Golf & Country Club, and the Elks.
Pearl is survived by her five children, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. They include son and daughter-in-law, Jon & Linda Petrzelka and their children Kylee & Justin Dowe and great-granddaughter Adalynn, Brett Steinbeck and Jennifer Steinbeck, son Joel Petrzelka and son and daughter-in-law, Paul & Julie Petrzelka and their children, Daniel & Kathleen Petrzelka and great grandsons Harvey and Bingham and Nicole & Jared Simon and great-grandson Cooper. Her daughters are Beth VanPutten and her children Adam VanPutten, Drew VanPutten, and Anna VanPutten, and daughter and son-in-law, Nancy & Jon Edson and their children Jordan Edson, Nick Edson, and Ryan Edson. She was fortunate to have her family living in the Skagit Valley near her.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dave and her brother, Ray Nelson.
A graveside burial at Anderson Cemetery in Stanwood, WA will take place at a later date.
