Richard M. White passed away on July 5, 2013, in Salem, OR, after a long illness. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 21, 1931, his family later moved to Pueblo, Colorado where he graduated from Centennial High School in 1949. While in high school, Richard was a member of ROTC. After graduating he attended Pueblo Junior College, which was interrupted by a tour of duty in the Air Force. He was stationed with the 17th Bomber Wing in both Korea and Japan where he served as a Staff Sergeant on an airplane maintenance crew. Serving his country was one of his proudest accomplishments. Upon returning from military service Richard earned an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration in 1955.

In 1956 Richard married Norma Pennington in Pueblo, Colorado. They had three children, raising their family in Pueblo, Walla Walla, WA and Mount Vernon, WA. They were divorced in 1978.

Richard's many jobs included the Pueblo Star Journal Newspaper; the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce; the Walla Walla, Washington Chamber of Commerce as well as the Port District of Walla Walla. He was also head of the Port District in Mount Vernon, where he was instrumental in the industrial development of this area. In addition he was City Clerk and Treasurer for the City of Mount Vernon.

In 1979 Richard relocated to Medford, OR, and along with his brother William, opened a Big and Tall Men's store, Above and Beyond, Inc. He was the manager until 1982 when he purchased the store from his brother.

In 1981 Richard married Drusilla Lillian Graff (Dru An) in Medford, OR, where they resided until relocating to Salem, OR, in 2006.
Richard was involved in many activities, but his true devotion was to Rotary Club International. He was an active member of the Mt. Vernon, Medford, and South Salem Clubs. Richard was involved in almost every aspect of Rotary from President of the Mt. Vernon Club to volunteering on countless committees to benefit his communities.

Among his many attributes, Richard is best remembered for having a keen wit and a corny sense of humor. He loved games, especially his monthly poker club, watching the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks. He adored his children and grandchildren. He also had an abiding love for dogs, especially his Dachshunds.

Richard was preceded in death by both of his parents, his brother William, mother-in-law Junia Graff, as well as his beloved dogs, Buddy and Abbey.

He is survived by his wife, Dru An, daughter Laura Seutz (Brian) of Seattle, WA, son Douglas White (Lori) of Las Vegas, NV, daughter Nancy Morton (David) of Seattle, WA; grandchildren Matthew White (Las Vegas, NV) and Anna Morton (Seattle, WA), and an infinite amount of friends and Rotary colleagues.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Broadview Community United Church of Christ, 325 N. 125th St, Seattle, WA 98133.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any remembrances be made to your local Rotary Club.
