He was born August 11, 1945 in Bellingham, WA to Bud and Dot (Schmelling) Scrimsher. He went to school in Coupeville, WA. After school he joined the Army and served proudly from December 14, 1965 until his Honorable Discharge August 23, 1978, having done 2 tours in Vietnam and 1 tour in Korea. He married his wife, Theresa on January 1, 1978 while still stationed at Fort Lewis and settled into family life in Mount Vernon.
After his military service he became a bus driver for Greyline of Seattle and later a long haul truck driver, eventually working as an owner-operator team with his wife Terry when she retired, drove for R&N Van Service and BFF then returning to long haul trucking until his much desired retirement.
After retiring he honed his skills as a coffee consumer with the morning group at the Hometown Café in Sedro Woolley, who he came to think of as his close friends and who supported him through his last days fighting the cancer that would take him from us.
Bob leaves behind his wife Theresa (Terry), his mother Dot Berg of Republic, WA, two sons Rob Scrimsher of Corvallis, Oregon and John Scrimsher (Heather) of Atlanta, GA, brother Dean Hendrickson (Gloria) of Kettle Falls, WA, 4 step-sons, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, plus several cousins and other extended family members who visited him often throughout the final battle.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, September 6th at 2:30 PM. Please watch here for further details.
A very special and heartfelt thank you is offered to the many wonderful people at Hospice who helped Bob and his family during this time. The compassion and respect you all showed him and his wife will never be forgotten.
