December 13, 1920 - January 6, 2011

Al Martin Jr., 90, went to sleep peacefully to be with the Lord, January 6, 2011. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Midge Martin of Elma, WA.

Al was born in Philidelphia, Pennsylvania where he lived with his 2 brothers Ralph & Wilbur, his 2 sisters Margaret & Ida, along with their parents, Alfred Martin Sr. and Ida (Dool) Martin.

He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 22, on April 22, 1942. He very quickly & efficiently achieved his title, as a Machinist Mate, First Class. He served his country through the height of WWII, working in the engine rooms of 5 different vessels: USS Thomas Jefferson, USS President Jackson, USS Sandoval (APA 194), USS McCawley, & USS President Hayes. He was discharged on November 26, 1945.

As a result of a blind date set up by Al's best friend, Al & Midge were happily married on February 21, 1952. They were married for 55 years, and raised 3 children together. Marilyn Nelson, of Montesano, WA, Marsha Gronotte, of Lacey, WA, and Todd Martin, of Conway, WA.

Al is survived by his brother Ralph, who still resides in Philidelphia, his 3 children, 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and his nieces & nephews.

He was a very hardworking, dedicated, generous man. Al had a beautiful home in Seattle with his family, where he loved to garden, grow raspberries, take long walks & raise chickens. He loved to play bingo, and he especially loved going to the ocean with Midge. Al & his many stories & exceptional humor will be greatly, and dearly missed.

Rest in Peace
Al Martin, Jr.
