Bette Edythe Hilton Carpenter, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2014, in Mt. Vernon, Washington, where she resided these last few years.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born on December 15, 1922 to Frank and Edith Hilton, and the large, pioneering, Hilton family of Marysville, Washington. Surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins, Bette spent her childhood growing up at her beloved Mission Beach with long days of swimming, catching "kings", and learning how to make "skoppa" beads from Snoqualmie Jenny.
She graduated from Marysville High School with the class of 1940, and shortly after started working as secretary to the Superintendent.
On May 14, 1942 she married William "Wally" Carpenter. Wally enlisted in the Marines and the couple lived in Florida during WWII. After the war they returned home to Marysville, where they lived. She was in charge of the financial side of their construction business and the quintessential wife, mom, and homemaker. Her patience, grace, and unconditional love, characterized her life with family and friends.
She loved crossword puzzles, swimming laps in her pool until the age of 80, attending the 5th Avenue Theater, gardening, gourmet cooking, and hosting Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and 4th of July dinners.
Bette is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Joe Divita, and their children Joseph, Jacqueline, Victoria and Natalie; her son-in-law Timothy Lauren and his children Christopher and Elisabeth.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wally in 1975, daughter Sally in 2009 and her sister Lorraine Borders.
