BETTY WILLIAMS Obituary
Betty M. Williams, 87, passed away on Sunday, April 10th, 2011 at Skagit Valley Hospital with her husband of 67 years near her side.
She was born June 20th, 1923 in Seattle, Washington to Jim and Hazel Forrester.
On August 17th, 1941 while visiting friends, she chanced to meet the love of her life and future husband Ralph Williams. They married on June 22, 1943 in Lake City, Seattle.
After Ralph left the Merchant Marines, they started their successful business, R & B Construction with Betty at the helm as Vice President. They worked together raising their family in Seattle until moving to Camano Island. Betty worked tirelessly alongside Ralph designing and building their new home there. She could climb a ladder and swing a hammer with the best of them and wasn't afraid to try anything.
In 1985 they retired to LaConner, living on their boat, the Studley Duck for 1 1/2 years, before settling into their retirement home in Shelter Bay.
Betty was the best boat skipper in all of Shelter Bay. She would maneuver their boat into the tightest spots with ease and grace to everyone's amazement. The first woman to take a boat through the Ballard Locks in Seattle, Betty knew her boats inside and out. She would immediately know when anything was wrong, and always knew what it took to fix it.
In Ralph's words, Betty was a real "firecracker" The best wife you could ever ask for! A beautiful, smart and gracious woman in everything she did. She loved fast cars, the outdoors, dancing, skiing, boating, and living life to it's fullest every day.
Betty had a deep love for animals and a generous heart towards everyone she met, always ready to pitch in whenever she saw the need.
The tender care and devotion Ralph provided when her health began to fail is testimony to the enduring love they had for one another. Scattered to the wind, Betty's spirit will remain alive forever. By now she most likely has found her way back to the San Juan Islands where she most loved to boat.
Betty is survived by her husband, Ralph; son, Ralph Jr and daughter, Lael; 4 grandchildren; Sarah, Karen, Allison and Jeffery; cat Ling Ling, and her beloved birds.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Jack and Larry Forrester.
At her request, there will be no memorial service. In her honor, please make a donation to your special charity in her name.
