Filitsa Demopoulos Obituary

Filitsa peacefully fell asleep in the Lord on April 18, 2011, joining her husband Efthemios (Mike) Demopoulos.

Filitsa was born August 20, 1923 on the Island of Sifnos, Greece as the fourth child of Georgio and Flora Fissa. She immigrated to the United States during the mid 1950s and in 1969 married Mike Demopoulos of Anacortes.

Filitsa was an accomplished cook and with Mike enjoyed entertaining friends and neighbors in their Anacortes home.

After Mike passed Filitsa moved back to Seattle. She was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption from the time she arrived in Seattle but also attended and supported St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Bellingham and Seattle's St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. She also participated in the Daughters of Penelope organization.

Filitsa had a deep and abiding Christian Faith that influenced her life manifesting love to all she touched. She was a kind, warm, positive, joyful person who always looked to the bright side of life and always with an infectious smile, who had friends every where she lived. She truly will be missed by many.

Filitsa is preceded in death by her two brothers and two sisters and survived by her younger sister Irini, eighteen nieces and nephews, forty-four grandnieces and grandnephews, all living in Greece, numerous god children and countless friends.

A Trisagion Service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening April 25th at the Evergreen Washelli Chapel, 11111 Aurora Avenue North Seattle, WA, with funeral services celebrated on Tuesday April 26th beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption, 1804 13th Ave. Seattle WA.

Mrs. Demopoulos was a gracious hostess while my Mother, Father and I were touring Greece. Dinner in Athens with Filitsa and her nephew was delightful. It was royal treatment and a warm welcome from an Anacortes neighbor. My thoughts and prayers are with her family now.
