Geneva (Dahl) Peth Sasnett, lifelong resident of Skagit County, passed away at home in Bow on Sunday, April 7th, 2013.

She was the daughter of Oscar and Marie (Denis) Dahl, born August 27th, 1926. She was raised with her four brothers, four sisters and aunt on the Dahl family farm in Bow.

Geneva graduated from Burlington-Edison High School ('44); attended Washington State College (WSU) in 1944-45; married John "Jerry" Peth in September 1945 and became a rancher's wife. They had three daughters (Denice, Janice, and Cheri) and a son (John Michael deceased 1948). After Jerry's death in 1964, she raised her daughters on the Peth ranch in Bow.

Geneva married R. Steve Sasnett in October 1973. They enjoyed their home, their combined families, and their travels together until Steve's death in 1994. She was a friend to Steve's children (Michael and Roberta Sasnett of Los Altos, CA; Donald and Diane Sasnett of Phoenix, AZ; and Charlene and Herb Welsh of Seattle) and an active grandmother to the Sasnett and Welsh grandchildren.

Geneva spent the majority of her working career, starting in 1970, at United General Hospital, beginning as a ward clerk and retiring some twenty years later in community relations.

Community participation and service was an important part of her life here in Skagit Valley. Among her valued associations, memberships, guilds, foundations and boards; the United General Hospital Foundation; the United General Hospital Guilds; Burlington Soroptimists International; the United Way of Skagit Valley, a member of the Skagit County Park¡Çs Board, the BE Educational Alumni Foundation, and a member of the Skagit Golf and Country Club. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Doris Dahl, Juanita Dahl, Dorothy Oswald, Ione (Howard) Taylor; brothers: Norman, Vernon "Bud", and Ernie Dahl; and her aunt Katherine Brandstrom who was raised with the Dahl family.

Geneva is survived by her three daughters and spouses; Denice (Peth) and Charles Tewalt of Mount Vernon, Cheri (Peth) and Monte Barnett of Burlington, and Janice Peth of Bow; her grandchildren; Colette Bashir of Miami, FL; John Tewalt and Sheri Van Diest of Concrete; Anthony "Tony" and Karina Tewalt of Mount Vernon; SSgt Matthew and Amy Barnett of Bellevue, NB; and James Barnett of Burlington; and great-grandchildren; Jourdan Tewalt, Stefan Bashir; and Hannah, Shane and Chase Tewalt. She is also survived by her brother Loren and wife Joan Dahl of Bow; sister-in-law Janet (Ernie) Dahl of Bow; brother-in-law Tom (Dorothy) Oswald of Burlington; brother-in-law Wick Peth of Bow; sister-in-law Dorothy Peth of Bow, brother-in-law Richard "Buzz" Peth of Odessa, WA; sister-in-law Linda Peth of Deer Harbor; and sister-in-law Dianne (Ted) Peth of Bow; and the wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in abundance in the Dahl, Peth and Sasnett families, who helped make her life happy and fulfilled.

A time of visitation is will be Friday, April 12, 2013, 10:00 am until 5:00 pm at Hawthorne Funeral Home, 1825 East College Way, Mount Vernon.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, Burlington WA with Fr. Tom McMichael officiating, with a reception to follow at the church.
