Joan Marie Gilbertson, 75, of Stanwood passed away on November 5, 2013, surrounded by her loving family following a year-long battle with colon cancer. Joan was born on July 26, 1938 in Mount Vernon, Washington to Clarence B. Nelson and Edith Marie Nelson. She grew up in the LaConner and Fir Island area with her sister Janice and brother Jerry. Joan attended Conway Grade School and LaConner High School. She was baptized and confirmed at Fir Conway Lutheran Church.

Joan married Everett Bartram in 1955 and together had 4 children, Sheri, Kerri, Jerri Ann and Barry while residing in the Conway area. In 1971, Joan and Fred Tiffany were married. Fred died suddenly in 1973 leaving Joan to raise their 4 children Tim, Tami, Todd and Tracy at their home in Stanwood. In 1992 Joan married Allen Gilbertson, they later divorced.
As a single mother, Joan held many jobs from bar tending at the Stanwood Eagles and Stanwood Legion to working as substitute mail carrier for the Postal Service. She also worked as a waitress at the Viking Restaurant and worked at the UffDa Shoppe, both in Stanwood. The "best job I ever had" position went to being the cook at Datacom Technologies in Everett. She prepared and served the daily hot lunch buffet for their employees from 1989 to 1996.
Joan was famous for her culinary talents especially her potato salad and incredible pies. She prepared food for many weddings, funerals, birthday parties and other celebrations getting known by her reputation of incredible food and outstanding presentation.
In addition to her joy for cooking she loved being with her family, especially time with the grandkids to whom she was known as MorMor, Gramma and Grandma Joan. She loved being involved, being busy and being helpful. Joan was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Stanwood and Stanwood Son's of Norway.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and step-dad Dean Thompson; her husband, Fred Tiffany and son-in-law, Val Durham.
Joan is survived by her sister, Janice (Jack) Hillcar; brother, Jerry (Marily) Nelson; children, Sheri Durham; Kerri (Ken) Scott; Jerri Ann Bartram; Barry (Pam) Bartram; Tim (Gena) Tiffany; Tami Sundberg; Todd (Michelle) Tiffany, and Tracy (Rachael) Tiffany; 19 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way; numerous nieces, nephews, and step-daughters Evelyn (Rick) Williams and Kathleen Brown. Her family will miss her immensely.
Also holding a special place in Joan's heart are Wendy Fure and Lawrence (Larry) Hanson.
Joan's family wishes to thank Pastor Mark Bankson for the many visits, love and concern shown to her and her kids.
Her family also wants to thank Dr. Joshua Hawkins, Dr. George Gjerset and the staff at Skagit Regional Cancer Care Center for the care and concern given our mom following her surgery and throughout her treatments.

Memorial services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday November 11, 2013 at Our saviour's Lutheran church, Stanwood.
Private family inurnment will be held in the Anderson Cemetery Stanwood.
